Hi, and thanks for visiting my site.
My name is Ella and I am an accredited NatHERS and BASIX consultant and renewable energy engineer based in Sydney, NSW.
My business is all about providing an holistic approach to energy efficiency for new and existing Australian homes.
I offer the following services, so please feel free to get in touch for a chat or a quote.
NatHERS
The National House Energy Rating Scheme provides a mechanism for meeting the regulatory requirement for new residential dwellings around Australia to ensure minimum standards of energy efficient design. In NSW, this is conducted as the "Simulation method" under the BASIX Thermal Comfort section and is required for multi-residential dwellings and dwellings that are not eligible for a "Do It Yourself" assessment.
A NatHERS assessment considers the local climate and the building elements such as materials, construction methods, insulation, ventilation and sunlight access to determine a star rating out of ten which indicates the building's thermal performance.
I have extensive experience working with all types of dwellings and I understand that the priorities of a developer may be different to those of an architectural home.
BASIX
The Building Sustainability Index is a NSW based regulatory framework which ensures minimum standards for energy efficient design, water consumption and energy consumption for all Class 1 and Class 2 dwellings, both new and renovated.
A BASIX assessment may or may not involve a NatHERS thermal simulation and there are pros and cons to using either NatHERS or the built-in BASIX assessment tool.
Having completed hundreds of BASIX assessments, I have a unique understanding of the nuances in the tool that enable the creation of the ideal BASIX certificate for your project.
Renewable Energy
Renewable energy and battery storage are becoming increasingly adopted by home owners around Australia. With the price of these technologies decreasing rapidly while costs of grid sourced electricity increases, significant financial and environmental savings are possible with on site generation.
But how do you know if the best solution for your home is a solar array, a battery bank or both and what size system should you consider?
A solar resource assessment is included with all my single home NatHERS assessments accounting for the slope of the roof, orientation of the dwelling and the solar insolation data for the location. This information is invaluable for determining an effective system size to lock-in to the BASIX certificate.
Energy Efficiency
As each dwelling is unique, so are the most effective methods for improving the energy efficiency.
Factors such as the climate, the number of people residing in the dwelling or the hours of occupancy among others, will all affect the effectiveness of energy efficiency techniques.
Before you commit to a specific water heater or space heating system in your BASIX certificate, it is very beneficial to consider how efficient they will be in your climate and with the characteristics of your home.
